The Core Team

Tan Yanshen

Yan Shen has been involved in the organisation of several crisis committees, most notably in the United Nations Association of Singapore Preparatory Conference 2014-2017 and Fundamental Model United Nations 2014-2016. He graduated from Hwa Chong Institution and will be reading law at Mansfield College, University of Oxford this year.

His extensive experience in organising crisis committees has led to his participation in the formation of The Backroom to push the boundaries of the crisis circuit in Singapore while experimenting with different types of simulations for educational purposes.

Caleb Karim

Caleb is an NUS undergraduate with a passion for crisis. While history may be perceived as a coherent story, Caleb views how events unfold as the consequence of various actions, be it accidental or by choice. He also believes that there is always a lesson from history, and that it should be explored from the perspective of the main characters, to better understand why our history took place. He hopes that everyone can enjoy crisis, and that everyone can better understand history in a more engaging manner.

Jeremy Chan

Jeremy is currently serving his National Service and is looking to study Economics in the United States in the near future. He has been in the MUN circuit since 2013 and has participated in over 20 conferences, almost half of which serving as a chair or secretariat member. He’s used MUN to explore his interests in current affairs, design, and politics while meeting new people who share a similar interest. He is also a volunteer trainer and organizer for United Nations Association of Singapore MUN, and has served as an Academics and Crisis director for both Raffles Model UN and UNAS.

As a graduate of the RJC Humanities program, he spends his spare time reading, watching and over-analysing video games. He looks forward to an enriching and fun conference.

Jackson How

Jackson is a bit of a history fan and loves engaging in intellectual discourse about anything historical. Being an avid reader, he actively seeks to improve upon his knowledge on any issues that may interest him by spending an entire day at  thelibrary just reading. His main goal in Crisis is to always bring about an as realistic a reflection of the world as possible to the delegates and he thrives on ensuring everyone learns at the end of the simulation.

Royston Long

Royston is currently awaiting his matriculation into the National University of Singapore later this year. He constantly finds himself being involved in crisis committees, recently organising the crisis committees for Singapore Model United Nations 2017 and Nanyang Technological University Model United Nations 2017. He first began his Model United Nations journey in 2014, and since then, he has served on the secretariat for several university-level conferences in both academic and operational roles.

Royston believes that crisis committees allow participants to challenge themselves and develop their skills. Hence, he helped establish The Backroom with the intention of raising the academic rigour of crisis committees in Singapore, so that participants will enjoy their crisis experiences more and have a more effective learning process.

Tiffany Foo

Tiffany started her MUN journey at YNCAPMUN 2015. She participated as a delegate in numerous crisis councils and served as crisis staff for Singapore Model United Nations 2016 - 2017 and Nanyang Technological University Model United Nations 2017 inter alia.

Tiffany enjoys dabbling in historical councils and crises and experimenting with new crisis mechanics. She believes that crises committees are a fun and engaging way for delegates to learn more about our history and the world. With that, she warmly welcomes delegates to join the Backroom.
